Since 2014, Maiga has been honored to officiate the weddings, recommitment ceremonies, and baby welcomings for hundreds of couples. Her career as a wedding officiant grew out of teaching yoga. Yoga students began organically approaching her to create rituals and ceremonies to mark life transitions. It was a perfect fit to then join the team at Philadelphia Officiants, where she can continue crafting personal ceremonies that reflect her clients.
Maiga’s work as a writer makes her a natural storyteller for her officiating clients. It’s one of her great joys to hear the story of how love was created between two people, and then reflect that back in their wedding ceremony. When she’s not writing original wedding ceremonies, Maiga engages with a range of writing and has been published on several platforms.
Maiga’s work is creating containers for people to grow and be witnessed in their growth. Wedding ceremonies are exactly these powerful portals where communities gather to honor and support the love of a couple. When not officiating, Maiga continues to teach yoga and also train other yoga teachers. Her work facilitating yoga teacher training is another joyful experience of watching trainees emerge with more self-awareness and confidence as they integrate new information, observation skills, and the capacity to transmit these teachings.
Over the years, Maiga has created yoga retreat experiences domestically and internationally for students who wanted an immersive experience. She also designs retreats for other yoga teachers! Her own retreat leading went on hiatus in 2017 when she became pregnant with her daughter, due in June of 2018. She and her husband are excited to welcome their daughter to their home, where they’ve been slowly establishing a permaculture food forest in their suburban backyard.
