Rev. Kathy

Rev. Dr. Kathy Flynn-Somerville is an ordained non-denominational minister through the SOUL Community Church—an interfaith, Universalist congregation. In addition to her calling as minister, Kathy has been in-the-trenches for more than 30 years as a teacher in public education with dedication to students, staff, administrators, caregivers, and community.

As a Mindfulness practitioner for nearly 50 years (and growing), Kathy’s experiences as learner, teacher, leader, mentor, and public speaker are continuous and extensive. Her embodiment of social and emotional awareness, and trauma sensitive Mindfulness, has been far reaching. Mindfulness, as a way of being, is a compass for the transformative work that she engages in through mind, heart, body, and spirit. She honors and embraces divine synchronicity throughout life.

Kathy brings that mindful presence into the weddings that she officiates. From working with her couples to plan a ceremony that is inclusive of their own beliefs and traditions, to bringing that heartfelt engaged presence to her ceremony performance, Kathy creates memorable and joyful experiences for her couples and guests.

Whether in the role of wife, mother, sister, friend, peer, or colleague, Kathy’s mind, heart, body, and spirit honors sacred interconnection, love, and inclusivity of humanity with all living things. Kathy is both humbled and proud to perform ceremonies for couples of all backgrounds.

Kathy and her husband, Joe, have been married for nearly 40 years, and call the North Side of Pittsburgh home.
